W: WALKING CAREFULLY

running across fieldsYou have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover’s arms can only come later when you’re sure they won’t laugh if you trip. ~Jonathan Carroll, “Outside the Dog Museum”

I don’t know how carefully we need to walk in the beginning of love. It almost has the ring of walking on eggshells, or walking so carefully that we’re not our true selves. But the image of running across a sunlight field filled with daises, towards my lovers arms (cue romantic music and slow motion frames) … only to trip in the middle and land on my face and their feet …

(Note to self: Maybe I should have had Humor or Laughter included in earlier posts)

I know this won’t hold true for my marriage. Seven years later I KNOW my partner will laugh. And we’ll end up laughing together. Because after all, to survive the sands of time, humor and laughter is a vital part of a relationship.

So whether you’re walking carefully or running with abandon – just have fun. Be free. Be yourself. And love your lover with all your heart.

Do you have to walk carefully? Can you run freely across the field? Will your lover laugh or sympathize with you if you trip and fall?
